🚨 Baffins Community Update 🚨 |
||
|
Good Evening All,
Your local officer, PC 28670 Jamie Christian here! Sorry that I haven’t updated you recently, as I am sure you can imagine it’s been a busy few weeks. That said, here is a little bit about what has been going on:
Stabbing on Tangier Road I am sure that many of you will have seen the update posted on our social media pages in relation to the stabbing on Tangier Road. If you are not aware, James Wallis, 39, of Milton Road, Portsmouth has been charged with the following offences:
- Wounding with intent - Possess a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place - Possess an offensive weapon in a public place - Assault by beating of an emergency worker
He has been remanded into custody. A 44-year-old woman from Portsmouth who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been conditionally bailed until 7th February 2026.
The investigation is still ongoing and there is significant work ahead. Our Criminal Investigation Department (CID) continues to lead this case, working diligently to gather all the evidence. I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has assisted so far and to those who continue to support our enquiries.
If you witnessed this incident or have any relevant footage and have not yet come forward, please contact us as soon as possible. I will also remain involved behind the scenes, liaising with the council and local housing associations. In addition, I am in regular contact with the Officer in the Case and have been conducting enquires on their behalf. If you see me in the area, please feel free to stop me and say hello!
St Marys House I previously mentioned that I had contacted VIVID Housing in relation to the issues we are having here. I have asked that they address the repairs required to the doors to prevent youths gaining entry to the blocks where they have caused damaged and are smoking cannabis. VIVID have advised me that one of the broken external doors are due to be replaced mid-December and changes are being made to the ‘trades’ buttons. I await to hear from them about repairs/replacements of other doors and will continue to liaise with them until this issue is sorted.
👥Community Engagement👥 Last night, PC Chris Middleton (the Fratton Bobbie) and I visited a youth group at the Fratton Community Centre after they invited us to discuss concerns raised by some of their young members about knife crime in Portsmouth. We had a fantastic evening with a really engaged group who were keen to learn. They took part in our knife crime quiz, we educated them around the law, who to contact if they know someone is carrying a knife and reasons why people might do this. The group came up with loads of great questions for us. This included my favourite question of the evening (which I accept was a tad off topic) – “have you ever thought which Disney character would go to prison the longest”. I had not, but it got everyone thinking! I have previously talked about the film Home Alone, because let’s face it, a lot of those characters would be in serious trouble with the police! On a serious note, while these light-hearted moments are great, the conversations around knife crime are incredibly important especially considering recent events!
While we were at this community group, other members of the team were at the 8th Portsmouth Girls Brigade at St Joseph's Hall, Tangier Road. This gave the team a chance to speak to girls of all different ages, partake in activities, answer questions and give them an insight into life as a police officer. PCSO Georgi and I attended the 4th Boys Brigade back in October (also held at this location) for a similar event. We took uniforms for the kids to wear, our van for the kids to explore and had a Q&A session thereafter. We were invited to join in their sports activities and found it very amusing watching some of the kids running around playing football in police riot helmets!
If you know a child who is looking for something to do after school, to make new friends or just burn off some energy then I highly recommend this. See the link to their Facebook page for more info>>> Copnor Boys' Brigade & Girls' Brigade Portsmouth | Facebook <<<<
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read through my update – as always, I appreciate your support. I’ll keep you posted with more updates soon!
